The Land of the Dragons figurines are produced by the Tudor Mint and accompany
their Myth & Magic product range. The Myth & Magic collection began in 1989 and
includes not just dragons but other fantasy creatures including unicorns and
fairies.
As with many manufacturers, Tudor Mint "retires" a number of figures periodically. Retired
pieces are no longer produced and can become much sought after by collectors.
One feature of the Land of the Dragons range is that many of them incorporate crystals in
the figure. Sometimes these are small, polished stones. Other figures incorporate larger
chunks of mineral in the design.
As well as "traditional" dragon studies Tudor Mint also produces rather more unusual
figures such as the "Myth and Magic Biker's Club" and the "Dragons vs Wizards Chess"
pieces. Don't forget the wonderful, limited edition "3660 Daredevil" - one brave biker dragon
leaping his bike over others!
Tudor Mint run a Myth and Magic Collectors' Club for fans of their figures. Members
receive the "Methtintdour Times" newsletter and are able to buy special limited edition
figures as well as other selected pieces at a discount.
The Methtintdour dragons inhabit a number of "realms", the main ones of which are the
Woodland, the Desert, the Land of Ice, the Mountain Land, the Land of Glaciers and the Land
of Snow. Types of dragons include in the collection include lava dragons, celestial
dragons and - my favourite - gothic dragons.
