Yoshi
Yoshi is a cute character found in various Nintendo video games, the first of which was Super Mario World. Yoshi was initially a way for Mario to travel, however he went on to become a star character in his own right.
There is considerable scholarly debate as to Yoshi's species. Some say he is a dragon: he is able to breath fire and has been referred to as Super Dragon Yoshi. However he originated in Dinosaur Land which would make him a dinosaur. The compromise solution would appear to be to class Yoshi as a species in his own right, a close cousin to both dinosaurs and dragons.
Yoshi himself is green although other Yoshis exist in other colours. They all have very large noses with which they can locate many interesting things. Yoshis like to travel and can be found almost anywhere, however they prefer places with a plentiful supply of fruit.
As well as their ability to breath fire, Yoshis are known for their long, sticky tongues. These allow them to swallow just about anything - even if it's bigger than they are! Items they swallow are coated in a hard shell and can be used as weapons.
It's also said that Yoshi's can even swallow themselves. This suggests to me that they must have some kind of existence outside of our usual four dimensions.
